Spalted Maple Urn with Green Opal Inlay

A true work of art, and a very special way to keep your pet’s cremated remains.

This spectacular urn was made from stabilized spalted maple and turned on a wood lathe. Synthetic opal has been inlayed into the small bark inclusions and drying checks, producing a geode effect.

The wood was finished with multiple coats of a satin lacquer and sanded in between coats. It was then buffed and polished with a micro-crystalline wax by hand.

The threaded top is carved from stabilized natural burl with a textured and colored edge. Threaded opening is 1 1/4″ diameter.

Stabilizing is a process of infusing a liquid solution (cactus juice brand) into the wood which is then baked to a solid. This increases the hardness and density of wood that has lost its structural integrity. Multiple dyes were added to the solution producing a beautiful random color effect in the wood. This piece will not expand or contract (stabilized) with the seasons and can be displayed anywhere including the fireplace mantle or near any heat source.
