The wood from which this beautiful urn was created was salvaged from an old shed that the woodworker’s dear friend and neighbor took down in 2021. The beam of wood from which this urn originated held up the shop roof for well over 35 years. The wood displays rich and dark orange (the richness of which is not truly visible in the photos), with interesting worm holes on one side and patches of inner bark. The lid reveals some of the tightest growth rings you’ll ever see. A wonderful piece representing strength and endurance that will be the perfect resting place for a wonderful pet.
The Pacific Yew is the slowest growing conifer in the world, so it has very tight wood grain and is very hard for a conifer. It is special in many ways including regeneration from cut stumps, the original source of taxol for cancer treatment and honored by peoples from around the world who have valued the trees and wood.
Carved from reclaimed wood collected in SW Oregon.
Hand-finished with beeswax.
Please note that any ‘flaws’ or cracks are part of the natural beauty of the wood.
Appropriate for pets up to about 21 lbs or as a keepsake urn for a larger pet.
